The Bronco Models 1/35 Cruiser Tank Mk.II / Mk.IIA / Mk.IIA CS (A10) 3‑in‑1 – CB35150 offers modelers the flexibility to build one of three important early‑war British cruiser tank variants. Developed as an improved version of the A9, the A10 Cruiser Tank Mk.II featured thicker armor and simplified hull construction while retaining the mobility and firepower expected of a cruiser tank.
Historical Background
Designed in the late 1930s, the A10 was intended as a “heavy cruiser” capable of supporting faster armored formations while offering better protection than the earlier A9. Although still lightly armored by later standards, the A10 represented a significant step in Britain’s evolving cruiser tank doctrine.
Key historical notes:
Cruiser Tank Mk.II (A10 Mk.II):
Armed with the 2‑pounder (40mm) gun and a coaxial machine gun, this version served in France 1940, North Africa, and Greece.
Cruiser Tank Mk.IIA (A10 Mk.IIA):
Added an extra machine gun in the hull and improved internal arrangements. Widely used in the Western Desert, where its reliability was appreciated.
Cruiser Tank Mk.IIA CS (Close Support):
Replaced the 2‑pounder with a 3.7‑inch howitzer, firing smoke and HE rounds to support infantry and other tanks. CS tanks were typically issued to troop leaders.
The A10 fought in some of Britain’s earliest armored engagements of WWII. Although soon replaced by more advanced cruiser tanks, it played a crucial role in shaping British armored tactics and providing valuable battlefield experience.
