The Thunder Model TMF35002 LRDG Weapon Set 1 is a highly detailed 1/35 scale accessory kit featuring an assortment of weapons and battlefield equipment used by the British Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) during World War II. Designed for enhancing desert patrol vehicles and special forces dioramas, this set is perfect for recreating the rugged appearance of Allied long‑range reconnaissance units operating deep behind enemy lines.
Historical Background
The Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) was a special reconnaissance and raiding unit formed by the British Army during WWII for operations in the harsh deserts of North Africa. Operating far from conventional supply lines, the LRDG carried extensive weapons and equipment mounted externally on their vehicles.
The LRDG conducted:
- Long‑range reconnaissance patrols
- Raids against Axis airfields and supply depots
- Navigation and intelligence missions
- Support operations for the SAS and Allied special forces
Vehicles used by the LRDG were heavily modified and packed with:
- Machine guns and automatic weapons
- Ammunition and fuel supplies
- Survival gear and navigation equipment
- Captured enemy weapons when available
The unique look of these heavily equipped desert vehicles has made the LRDG one of the most popular subjects for WWII desert warfare modelers.
