The Amusing Hobby 1/35 VK1602 Leopard German Recon Tank (35A004) brings to life one of Germany’s most interesting and little‑known armored reconnaissance prototypes of WWII. Developed in 1942 as a fast, well‑armored scout vehicle, the VK1602 Leopard was intended to replace lighter reconnaissance tanks with a more capable platform featuring sloped armor and a turret design inspired by the Panther.
Although the project never advanced beyond prototype development and design studies, the Leopard remains a favorite among modelers due to its sleek profile, advanced engineering concepts, and “what‑if” potential. Its combination of speed, armor, and firepower would have made it one of the most formidable reconnaissance vehicles of its time.
Amusing Hobby’s kit captures the VK1602 Leopard’s distinctive features with:
Highly detailed hull with accurate sloped‑armor geometry
Panther‑inspired turret with crisp surface detail
Detailed 50mm KwK 39 L/60 main gun assembly
Sharp molding and clean part fit for an enjoyable build
Link‑and‑length tracks for realistic sag and easy assembly
Well‑defined panel lines ideal for weathering and camouflage
Perfect for early‑war, mid‑war, or speculative “what‑if” paint schemes
Whether you’re building a historically grounded prototype or exploring alternate‑history scenarios, the VK1602 Leopard offers a visually striking and rewarding addition to any German armor collection.
