The Border Model BT-026 1/35 Pz.Kpfw. The Pz.Kpfw. IV/70(A) — built by Alkett on a standard Panzer IV chassis rather than the purpose-built Vomag chassis of the IV/70(V) — represents the final evolution of the Panzer IV hull as a tank destroyer platform. Mounting the formidable 7.5cm Pak 42 L/70 gun in a heavily sloped armored superstructure with 80mm of frontal armor, the IV/70(A) could engage Soviet Stalin tanks and Allied Shermans at long range while presenting a very difficult target. Final production vehicles of 1944–45 incorporated progressive simplifications including steel-rimmed road wheels to conserve rubber, the distinctive 'chin' on the lower front plate, and various other field modifications.
