1/35 Sd.Kfz.251 Ausf.D with R35 Turret - Border Model BT-042

The Border Model BT-042 1/35 Sd.Kfz.251 Ausf.D with R35 Turret is a premium 1/35 scale plastic model kit from Border Model, the Chinese manufacturer renowned for pushing the boundaries of 1/35 armor kit quality with metal barrels, photo-etched detail, workable tracks, and full interior treatments as standard features.

The Sd.Kfz.251 fitted with the turret of the captured French Renault R35 light tank represents one of the more unusual improvised weapons of the Wehrmacht — a marriage of German halftrack mobility with a captured French 37mm SA 38 gun turret to create a light fire-support vehicle. These conversions were performed primarily in France using the large stocks of captured R35 vehicles following the fall of France in 1940, and served with occupation and security units. The resulting vehicle combined the cross-country mobility and carrying capacity of the standard Sd.Kfz.251/1 with the additional firepower of the R35's fully rotating turret — providing a modest but useful armored fire support capability for rear-area security operations. Border Model's BT-042 captures this unusual conversion with the premium standard including PE parts, metal barrel, and workable tracks.
