The Hobby Boss 83518 1/350 People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) Type 039 (Song Class) Submarine is a detailed injection-molded plastic model kit from Hobby Boss, the Chinese manufacturer renowned for its extensive range of military vehicles, ships, aircraft, and figures covering subjects from WWI through to the modern era.

The Type 039 (Song class) was China's first indigenously designed modern diesel-electric submarine, entering service in 1999. Incorporating a teardrop hull form and quieting technologies, it represented a significant step forward for the PLAN's submarine force. A Song-class submarine famously surfaced within striking range of USS Kitty Hawk in 2006 without being detected, highlighting the growing capability of China's undersea forces.
