The Polish Uhlan (light cavalry) regiments of 1939 were among the last horse-mounted combat cavalry in Europe. During the September 1939 campaign, Polish cavalry proved capable and aggressive fighters, often armed with rifles, sabers, anti-tank rifles, and light machine guns. The famous myth of Polish cavalry charging German tanks with sabers was Allied propaganda – Polish cavalry fought dismounted with modern weapons and proved highly effective in many engagements.
