1/200 TBD-1 (Douglas TBD-1 Devastator) - TRUMPETER 04206

The Trumpeter 04206 1/200 TBD-1 Devastator is a highly detailed injection-molded plastic model kit from Trumpeter, the Chinese manufacturer renowned for its extensive range of large-scale warships, 1/35 military vehicles and helicopters, and specialty military subjects.

The Douglas TBD-1 Devastator was the US Navy's standard torpedo bomber from 1937 and the first all-metal monoplane to serve on American carriers. By 1942 it was badly obsolescent but continued in front-line service due to a lack of replacements. At the Battle of Midway on 4 June 1942, TBD-1s from three carrier squadrons — VT-6, VT-3, and VT-8 — launched devastating but suicidal attacks on the Japanese carriers. Of 41 Devastators that attacked, only six returned. Their sacrifice drew Japanese fighters down to sea level, leaving the Japanese carriers unprotected against the Dauntless dive-bombers that followed.
