A Grassroots Modeling Club with a Strong Community Focus
The Oregon Mid-Valley Modelers are a long-running
IPMS-affiliated club founded in 2005, rooted in the Willamette Valley
modeling community.
What began as a handful of local hobbyists meeting informally has grown into an
active group dedicated to sharing the craft of plastic modeling with modelers
of all experience levels. [ipmsusa.org]
One of the club’s defining traits is its welcoming,
no-pressure atmosphere:
- No
membership fees
- Open
to all skill levels
- Drop-in
participation encouraged [ipmsu28.wi...pricot.org]
Their philosophy is simple: bring a kit, build, and enjoy
the hobby together.
More Than a Swap Meet—A True Hobby Gathering
The “Summer Fun” swap meet embodies everything the club
stands for: accessibility, camaraderie, and a shared passion for modeling.
Unlike formal contests, this event focuses on buying, selling, trading, and
connecting.
Expect:
- Tables
packed with armor, aircraft, automotive, naval, sci-fi, and figure kits
- Tools,
aftermarket parts, decals, and accessories
- Opportunities
to thin your stash—or grow it
- Plenty
of face-to-face interaction with fellow builders
Events like this are a natural extension of the club’s
regular meetings, which are hands-on build nights held twice monthly at the
same Albany VFW location. [ipmsu28.wi...pricot.org]
That means many of the vendors you’ll meet are active
builders andpeople who know the kits, the aftermarket, and the hobby inside and
out.
A Hub of Modeling Activity in the Pacific Northwest
Oregon Mid-Valley Modelers are not just a casual
club—they’re active contributors to the regional modeling scene. In addition to
swap meets, they regularly host larger events such as:
- Mid-Valley
Madness model shows and contests
- Oregon
Modelers’ Jamboree, a full-scale exhibition with vendors, contests,
and displays [ipmsusa.org],
[ipmsusa.org]
These events attract hobbyists from across Oregon and
neighboring states, helping to keep the scale modeling community vibrant in the
Pacific Northwest.
The Summer Fun swap meet offers a more relaxed,
bargain-hunting counterpart to those larger shows—perfect for conversation,
discovery, and low-key fun.
