This open approach makes the event welcoming for hobbyists of every interest and skill level, from beginners to experienced competitors.
Open Judging Format
The contest will feature a Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards system, providing recognition based on the quality of each build rather than direct head-to-head competition.
In addition:

This combination allows both:
- Fair evaluation for all skill levels
- Recognition of outstanding builds in each category
It’s a format that encourages growth, learning, and participation across the modeling community.
Special Themes for 2026
Head for the Highlands 2026 will feature two creative and timely themes:
Box Art
Modelers can recreate:
- Classic model kit box art
- Iconic scenes from packaging illustrations
- Dioramas inspired directly by vintage artwork
This theme encourages creativity and nostalgia, bringing classic modeling imagery to life.
USA Red, White & Blue / 250th Celebration
In celebration of America’s upcoming 250th anniversary, this theme invites:
- Patriotic subjects
- American military and civilian vehicles
- Aircraft and ships
